"The greatest evil occurs when good men stand by and do nothing."
oh my, can't stand that phrase anymore. what else do you want to apply that to? reporting children playing on a lawn they shouldn't step on? badly parked cars? there is no objective good or bad. some things just have to be sorted out by the people involved.

2012: The Year The Internet Ends
by What-A-Coincidence inhttp://ipower.ning.com/netneutrality.
06/01/2008 - every significant internet provider around the globe is currently in talks with access and content providers to transform the internet into a television-like medium: no more freedom, you pay for a small commercial package of sites you can visit and you'll have to pay for seperate subscriptions for every site that's not in the package.
what can we do?internet providers have realized that the only way to not lose massive amounts of customers over this is to make sure there are no alternatives, that's why all major internet providers are currently making agreements and planning to switch simultaneously somewhere in the year 2012. this is currently all going on under very strict nda's (non-disclosure agreements) because the last thing they want is the masses speaking out against it.

German WTS cooperates with other religions within UN program
by dust inin the town of ingelheim am rhein this week there is a "week of creation" (schopfungswoche).
there are exhibitions, discussions and other things happening.
one of the organizers is the workgroup "religious communities" (arbeitskreis glaubensgemeinschaften) of the local agenda 21, which is part of a un programme.

(don't catholics embrace theistic evolution)
at least austrian arch-bishop schönborn openly supports creationism.
this is really unbelievable. i mean, it's kinda positive to see them open up a bit and go more mainstream. but i wonder if this is an initiative of local jehovah's witnesses or if it's supported by the branch. -

"Sister," (or Brother) "May I have a word.....?"
by Lady Zombie insince i'm still getting to know all of you, tell me about an incident when you were pulled aside and counseled.
not having a formal jc meeting, but just an instance when some elder took it upon himself to "adjust" your thinking (or behavior).. here's one of mine.
it still is infuriating to me two years later.. there was a sister who had three young daughters (4 to 9 years) and a husband, all in the org.

i once told some elders that they were "building a fence around the law" (like they say the pharisees did). mostly because of highly personal things like dressing/grooming, hairstyle, beard etc.
in one of the next meetings an elder put me aside and told me "if you don't keep your mouth shut, we might well build a fence around YOU". -

You leave the Borg., your spouse stays in. Does marriage become hell?
by Hiddenwindow infor those of you with such experience, how difficult was your marital life after you left the wt?
.

you have to walk through a little hell when you "confess" to her. which mostly depends on the fact, that everybody in the congregation will ask her things about you and she'll feel bad. you have to understand that and not push it too hard in the beginning.
after that she'll eventually get used to it and life will be much better than before. due to the brothers talking $hit, she'll also eventually stop going to the meetings.
well, that was my experience. if she loves the religion more than you... i can't tell. -

Anyone ever been to Budapest?
by faundy ini'm going on monday for 8 days, have never even been on a plane before!.
em and i are really excited, but neither of us have been, so just wondered if anyone here has and can recommend any nice places, or warn of places to stay away from?
we have some guides, but they don't always give a personal view.. .

budapest is great. i don't know the names of all the places, but you should definately visit the castle on the mountain, the thermal baths and if you are into medieval stuff, i'd recommend a visit in "sir lancelot", they have great food and funny shows including bellydancing and firespitting.
depending on your interests, there's also a "house of horrors" which i believe was the nazi headquaters in budapest. and there's the communist statue park.
you could also get a guide, they don't charge that much and show you everything. -

Do JWs really believe the end is near?
by keyser soze inor do they merely pay lip service to the idea?
i have no doubt that some of them sincerely believe.
but when i was a kid, growing up in the '80s, i didn't know of a single witness, myself included, who didn't believe the end was close.

I realized that the end could mathematically be close, and getting closer, and still not ever come
i like that thought: "the everlasting last days".
